What Do Wolves Eat?
Wolves are carnivorous predators hunting large mammals based on habitat and prey.
- Main prey: Deer, elk, moose, caribou, bison
- Secondary: Beavers, rabbits, rodents, birds, fish
- Occasional: Berries, carrion, livestock (rare)
How Often?
Feast-or-famine hunters:
- Up to 20 lbs (9 kg) in one meal
- May go days without food
- Packs hunt every few days
Daily Needs
Adult wolves require 2.5–4.5 lbs (1.1–2 kg) daily on average.
