Wolf Families and Baby Pups
How wolves grow their packs!
How Long Are Wolves Pregnant?
Mother wolves are pregnant for about 2 months (62–63 days).
Pups are born blind and deaf, fully dependent on mom and pack for safety and warmth.
How Many Pups Are Born?
Most litters have 4–6 pups (range: 1–15).
- One litter per year, born in spring after winter mating
- Entire pack helps raise pups — big team effort!
Growing Up
Pups stay in den 6–8 weeks; mom feeds milk, adults bring soft food.
By 7–8 months, pups explore and learn hunting.
Stay with family 1–2 years before dispersing; some stay longer if food/space allows.
